  • Journey of the Beagle

In 1839 Charles Darwin Published a book called "Voyage of the Beagle". He was 22 years old when he set out on a five year voyage. From 1831 - 1836 and on those five years he came back with a vast amount of research. While on this voyage Darwin made many observations that helped him create his theory of evolution. On this voyage he visited rainforests where he observed many plants and animals all new to him. He witnessed an earthquake that lifted the ocean floor about 9 feet above sea level.
  • "The origin of species"

In 1859 Charles published another book "the origin of species" in his book he talks about natural selection as well as artificial selection. Natural selection is the process of which populations of living organisms adapt and change individuals in a population are naturally variable, meaning they have better traits suited to the environment than others. traits that give the advantages makes it easier to survive. and thus passing it off to their offspring and becoming more common in population.
  • The descent of man

In 1871 Charles published a book called "The descent of man" which argued that human beings shared a common ancestor with the great African apes. Charles identifies the defining characteristics of the human species as their relativity large brain size and deduce that the evolutionary advantages of the human species was inelegance, which yielded language and technology. He talks about how we are related in some way to every living organism on this earth, he also talks about "sexual selection".
  • The expression of the emotions in man and animals

In 1872 Darwin publishes "the expression of the emotions in man and animals", which he argued that all humans and even animals show emotions through remarkably similar behaviors. For Darwin, emotion had some evolutionary history that could be traced across cultures and species. It was an unpopular view at the time, today many psychologists agree that certain emotions are universal to all humans, regardless of culture. Charles Darwin also proposed that gestures are linked to certain cultures.
