  • First Scientific Speech

He had the opportunity to give his first speech at a meeting for the Plinian Society. There he presented his new finding that the larva of sea-mats can swim. The significance of this event was the fact it's the first, making Charles Darwin have the courage and confidence to further his research and philosophy.
  • Voyage on the Beagle

For the next five years, Darwin had the opportunity to ride the Beagle as a naturalist. His job was to observe and collect specimens wherever the expedition went ashore. He sent many of his findings back to England, that by the time he returned, he became famous as a naturalist. Also, on this voyage, he made observations that later contributed to his theory of evolution.

  • On the Origin of Species

This was his most well-known piece of work. In this piece, he introduced the ideology of natural selection, the idea of survival of the fittest. He completed his research far before publishing this book. Even though this idea was not new, he was wary to publish it due to the contradictions to biblical account of recreation. Needless to say, this book shaped the viewpoints of evolution and started a paradigm shift.
  • One of the Proudest Moments in his Life

Charles Darwin received an Honorary Doctorate of Law from Cambridge University. When his famous book was published, many accepted evolution but not natural selection. At this point, it was more widely accepted and they were upset for not recognizing it 20 years sooner. Change is not something most people take simply but with Darwin's perseverance, he was able to make a fundamental change to science as we know it today.
