Chapter 18 Timeline

  • National Association fot the Advancement of Colored People

    The NAACP was made by a group of African American and white progressives. They met in New York City and discussed the lynching of two African American men in Springfeild, Illinois. This organization was dedicated to ending racial discriminations.
  • National Urban League

    The National Urban League fought for racial equality. It was founded by concerned white reformers and African Americans. The league worked to improve opportunities in jobs and housing for urban African Americans.
  • Society of American Indians

    The Society of American Indians was formed by a group of 50 American Indians, most who were middle-class professionals. They discuissed ways to improve education, civil rights, local government, and health. The society publicized the accomplishments of American Indians.
  • Triangle Shirtwaist Fire

    A fire erupted in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory on March 25, 1911. 60 women jumped from the building to their deaths. 140 workers perished in the fire.
  • Eighteenth Amendment

    The Eighteenth Amendment barred the manifacture, distribution of alcaholic beverages, and sale. The states ratified it in 1919. It was repealed in 1933.
