    Battle of Fort Sumter
    The Battle of Fort Sumter was the very beginning of the Civil War. It started on the morning of April 12th 1861, and ended on april 14th 1861. The battle was in Charleston County, South Carolina. The United States had an army of 85 soldiers at the fort, and the Confederate Army had a total of 500 troops. Their was only two deaths in the whole battle, both of which were on the Unions side, As the Union was lowering their flag they shot off a cannon to say goodbye but the cannon exploded.

    The First Battle of Bull Run was the first major land battle of the Civil War. It is also known as Manassas. The Union army was led by Irvin McDowell, and the Confederate troops were led by Joseph Johnston, and P.G.T. Beauregar. The Confederate Army had 32-34,00 troops, and the Union had 28-35,000 soldiers. Their was 2,896 casualties on the Unions side, and 1,982 on the Confederates side.

    The Battle of Fort Donelson was when the Union was invading the the Confederate for. THe Union ended up overtaking the fort which opened up the Cumberland river for the Union. The Unioin was led by Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, and the Confederate troops were led by John Floyd. The Union had 24,531 men, and 16,171 Confederate troops.Their was 2,691 casualties on the Union side, and 13,846 on the Confederate side.

    The Battle of Hamton Roads was the most noted, and most importnat naval battle of the Civil War. It is also known as The Battle of Monitar and Merrimack or The Battle of Ironclads. The significance of the battle is that it was the first time ironclad warships had met in combat. The result og the battle is inconclusive, although the Union had more damage. The Union had 1 ironclad, and 5 wooden frigates, and the Confederacy had 1 ironclad, 2 wooden warships,

    The Capture of New Orleans was a very important event for the Union. It was important for the Union because it was the largest Confederate city. The Union was led by David Farragut, and Benjamin Butler. And defending the Confederate side was Mansfield Lovell. Their was no casualties or even any injuries on the Union or Confederate side. The Union had officially captured New Orleans.

    The Battle of Antietam is also known as The Battle of Sharpsburg (mostly in the south). It was the first major battle in the civil waw that took place on Union soil. The Union had George McCellon leading them, and the Confederate Army had Gen. Robert Lee. Their was 75,500 men on the Unions side, and the Confederacy had 38,000 men. Their was 12,401 casualties on the Unions side, and 10,316 on the Confedracy's side.

    The Battle of Gettysburg had more casualties than any other battle in the Civil War. Gettysburg is known as the wars turning point when the Union claimed victory. The Union was led by George Meade, and John Reynolds. The Confederacy was led by Robert Lee. The Union had 93,921 men fighting, and the Confederacy had 71,699 men. On the Unions side their was 23,055 casualties, and 23,231 on the Confederacys.

    The Siege of Petersburg was no ordinary millitary siege. It was nine months of trench fighting and the Union kept unsuccessfully assaulting the Confederate troops in Petersburg. The Union eventually came out on top with the victory. The Union was led by Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, and the Confederacy was led by Gen. Robert Lee. The United States had a strength of 65 to 125,000 and the CSA had an army of 52,000.

    The Battle of Appomattox Courthouse was fought on the morning of April 9th1865, and it was the last battle of the Civil War. General Lee was going to break through Ulysses S. Grant and the Union front, until he realized how much calvary they had. The Union had 100,000 men, and the Confederacy had 28,00 men. Their was 164 casualties on the Unions side, and 500 on the Confederates side, and the other 27,805 surrendered. The Union had been victorious, The Army of Northern Virginia had surrendered.

    President Lincoln was assassanated in the Ford Theatre while watchin the play "Our American Cousin." His murderer was John Wilkes Booth. He thought that he was doing a good thing, to revive the states of the Confederacy.
