French and Indian War
The French and Indian War started the year 1754 and ended in 1763 and it ended with the Treaty of Paris. Britain went to war with France and became in dept and to pay back its debt, began to heavily tax the colonist which started tensions. -
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 made the colonist very angry. This made the colonists furious because the British said that if the colonist settled west of the Appalachian Mountains the British would not be able to protect them anymore. -
Sugar Act
British legislation aimed at ending the smuggling trade in sugar and molasses from the French and Dutch West Indies and at providing increased revenues to fund enlarged British Empire responsibilities following the French and Indian War. When the British put taxes on sugar and molasses that angered the colonist. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was a tax on paper items, letters, pamphlets, and this made the colonist furious. The British Parliament passed the "Stamp Act" to help pay for British troops stationed in the colonies during the Seven Years' War. The act required the colonists to pay a tax, represented by a stamp, on various forms of papers, documents, and playing cards. -
Boston Massacre
Five colonists died in the Boston Massacre because the colonist started throwing rocks and sticks at the Redcoats and that made one of the Redcoats nervous and they shot. When that Redcoat shot that made the rest of the Redcoats shoot and killed 5 colonists. -
Tea Act
British said that colonists were only allowed to purchase tea from the British. The British put taxes on the tea to pay their debt from the French and Indian War. This has made the colonist very furious. This lead to the Boston Tea Party. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was a political protest of the colonist frustrated and furious at the British for imposing "taxation without representation." A group of men called "Sons of Liberty" dressed up as Mohawk Indians to hide their true identity. They dumped 342 chests of tea to hurt the pockets of the British. In response, the British closed the Boston Harbor and the Intolerable Acts. -
Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts are a response to the Boston Tea Party. The British imposed the Quartering Act and closing the Boston Harbor. The Intolerable Acts were punitive laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774 after the Boston Tea Party. -
Battles of Lexington & Concord
The Battles of Lexington and Concord kicked off the American Revolutionary War (1775-83). Tensions had been building for many years between residents of the 13 American colonies and the British authorities, particularly in Massachusetts. -
Olive Branch Petition
The Olive Branch Petition was a final attempt by the colonists to avoid going to war with Britain during the American Revolution. It was a document in which the colonists pledged their loyalty to the crown and asserted their rights as British citizens. The Olive Branch Petition was adopted by Congress.
