Causes of the American Revolution

  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763

  • The Stamp Act of 1764

    The Stamp Act of 1764
The Stamp act was where the taxes on anything that had to be printed went up. This varied from a deck of carbs to legal documents. This act made the colonists extremely mad because for the first time in about 150 years they had to pay taxes to England to help them and not to their own government to help the colonists.
  • The Sugar Act of 1764

    The Sugar Act of 1764
All of the imported sugar taxes were increased because of this act. It also made taxes higher on Coffee, wines, textiles and the dye indigo. This act was put into effect because Parliament wanted a way to pay for the costs for the French and Indian war.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
If all of the normal housing for the soldiers of England where full, the colonists had to help them out. They would need to treat them like family and take care of them. Sometimes they even had to give them their own beds. If colonists did not agree they would be punished for not helping the troops.

This law was passed because England wanted a way to pay for the destroyed tea. Salem became the new capital of Massachusetts. This law made it where Boston was no longer the official port to get into Massachusetts it became Marble head.
  • The Impartial Administration of Justice Act

The Impartial Administration of Justice Act
For most of the time the colonists had local juries. They normally had people from that colony in the jury. This act changed that. It made it where most of the people on the juries were in England so they didn't know the colonists, or in some cases there wasn't a jury at all. This made the colonists mad because the people that were on the jury didn't know them and didn't like them so most of the time they were ruled guilty even when they weren't.
  • The Massachusetts Regulating Act

    The Massachusetts Regulating Act
During this act the governor that was appointed by the king made it where meetings had to go through him. If the colonists wanted to have a meeting, they had to ask for permission to be able to hold a meeting. This made it really hard and slow for the colonists to get anything done.
  • The Quebec Act

    The Quebec Act
The Catholics living in the colonies wanted to have more freedom. The English agreed to this but in a sly way. They granted more Freedom to Catholics but only in Quebec. This made the Catholics and some of the other people in the colony extremely mad.
