The Proclamation of 1763 prohibited the Colonists to move west of the Appalachian Mountains. This upset the Colonists because they had just fought a 7 year war over the ownership of the land and won. The Native Americans, however, were still fighting that war, and the British did not want to keep sending soldiers over as it was costly.

In 1764 The Sugar Act was passed by the Parliament. This act increased the taxes of sugar, coffee, indigo, wines, etcetera. The Colonists had to pay taxes because the war was expensive and the British thought Colonists should pay since it was on their land.

The Quartering act was an act that allowed royal troops to stay in houses or empty buildings, as long as barracks were full. The colonists had to feed, cloth, and entertain the soldiers, using their own money. Colonists were upset by this.

In March of the next year, Parliament passed another law, called the Stamp Act, that taxed all printed materials. This included, but was not limited to, newspapers, pamphlets, bills, legal documents, dice, and playing cards. These two acts were the first times in 150 years that the Colonists would be taxed by someone other than their government.

The Boston Massacre was when a mob started harassing British soldiers. The soldiers shot into the mob killing 3 people and injuring 8 others. People almost immediately started turning the incident into propaganda, using it to turn colonists into supporters in starting a new country.

The Boston Tea Party was when a group of men called the Sons Of Liberty snuck into the Boston Harbor. They were disguised as Mowhawk Indians. Around 45 tons of tea went into the sea, from three docked ships. The Sons Of Liberty were a protesting group against the taxes and new government rules.

The Intolerable Acts, also known as the Coercive Acts, were a series of laws passed by the British Prime Minister, during 1774. They were in response to the Sons Of Liberty and the Boston Tea Party. They also moved the capital of Massachusetts to Salem, and Marble head was made the new port for the colony.

The Massachusetts Regulating act had all officers be subject to appointment by the royal governor. The act also banned all town meetings that the governor didn’t approve. The Sons Of Liberty were injured by this act.

The Impartial Administration of Justice Act let the royal governor of a colony move trials if thought they would not be treated fairly. This included moving trials all the way over to England. The colonists got mad, since they would know what is best for the town.

The Quebec act allowed civil government and religious freedom to Catholics in Quebec. The Catholics in Boston had been asking for religious freedom. They were upset that they did not get it, and it was like a passive aggressive action from the Parliament.
