Causes of the American Revolution

  • Proclamation of 1763

    It made American settlers not be able to pas the Appalachian Mountains. Settlers that were already settling there had to move. The settlers were mad because they had just fought a war for that land. They weren't able to pass the Appalachian Mountains because King George III wanted no more conflict between the Indians.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act raised the taxes of imported sugary items. The items included, sugar (of course), tea, coffee and textiles. The reason it happened was to pay of the debt for the war.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act increased the tax of all printed material. All printed material had to have a stamp on it or it was illegal. The items consisted of news, papers, pamphlets, bills, legal document, licenses, almanacs, dice and playing cards.
  • The Quartering Act

    This act allowed royal troops to stay in the houses of the colonists if the barracks didn't have enough room for them. The colonists had to take care of the soldiers and they had to have their own bed and bedroom. The colonists still had to listen to what they said to do and do it, the colonists were really mad about this because less freedom inside their own home.
  • Boston Massacre

    Five dead, six wounded, British soldiers fired at gunpoint. Outraged the colonists. Newspaper writers made it seem worse than it actually was.
  • Boston Tea Party

    In the evening of Dec. 16 1773, the "Sons of Liberty" dressed as Mohawk Indians. They dumped 45 tons of tea into the Boston Harbor. In today's money, that would be millions of dollars worth of tea.
  • Impartial Administration of Justice Act

    This act allowed the royal governor of the colonies to move the trials of colonists to different colonies or to England. The colonists didn't like that because it could make the trails very unfair on the colonists. Also, the judge does not know how major the act of crime was.
  • Massachusetts Regulating Act

    Made all law officers (police men) subjected by the royal governor. Banned any town meetings not approved by the royal governor. Colonists were mad because the British left them alone for 150 years and now were doing acts on them for no reason.
  • The Quebec Act

    The Quebec Act granted civil government and religious freedom to Catholics in Quebec. This didn't really affect the colonists except make them jealous, that they have been wanting civil government rights and religious freedom, so Britain gave it to Quebec.It had no effect on Quebec.
  • Boston Port Act

    Closed the port of Boston in 1774 until the price of the dumped tea was paid. It moved the capital from Boston to Salem. It majorly affected Boston because the port was the big way they were profitable.
