    The new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper the used. The presence of the stamp on these items was to be proof that the tax had been paid. The Colonists reacted immediately, asserting that the Stamp Act was an attempt to raise money in the colonies without the approval of the colony.

    British wanted to investigate accounts that the colonists were stockpiling weapons in Concord. 8 colonists were killed before the British marched on to Concord. Colonist did not like the fact that houses were burned down to figure this out.

    The Decleration was to announce to King George III that the thirteen colonies which were previously under British rule were now free in spite their disagreement. It was a symbol of their nationalism and gave them strength towards fighting for a cause.
