Causes of the American Revolution

  • The Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763
    It was an attempt to make a western border of the 13 colonies. The border was the Appalachian mountains. It made it illegal to live west of the mountains. The colonists were not happy because some of them had already started to move west.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    This act increased the duties on imported sugar and other items such as coffee and indigo dye. It was created to make money for the British. The colonists were mad about it because they did not like having to pay tax on sugar.
  • The Stamp Act

    The stamp act is a tax where they put stamps on all printed goods. They implemented those taxes because on the war. Also to pay for the administration of the colonies.
  • The Boston massacre

    The Boston Massacre started because a patriot attacked British loyalist and the patriot fired a gun killing a young boy. Several colonists were killed between The Patriot's throw snowballs, stones, and sticks. The worst thing to thing about it was that this was just a street fight. At the end of the Boston Massacre eight soldiers were acquitted of murder . Two soldiers were convicted of manslaughter and given a smaller sentence and what they originally given.

    It was a tea tax on the american colonies. This act made it so only East India tea company could sell their tea to the colonies. The colonists couldn't by tea from anyone else.

    The colonists were protesting against the British. The threw chests of tea in the Boston Harbor. They were protesting because they did not want taxed tea.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    It said the American colonists had to provide food and shelter for the British soldiers. The colonists were angry that they were forced to pay for food and shelter for the soldiers. The colonists didn't want the British soldiers there anyway, so that's what made them mad.

    It expanded the British Canadian territory in the Ohio Valley. It made a lot of the colonists mad. They were not happy about losing land in Ohio.
  • Boston Port Act

    The Boston Port Act was British people closing the port of Boston. They demanded that people pay for the losses that the tea company got when the teas was being dumped into the Boston harbor during the Boston tea party. The colonists were mad because they could not get their supplies
  • Administration of Justice Act

    Administration of Justice Act
    It allowed British soldiers accused of murder to be tried in England. The colonists were angry because they thought the soldiers would get away with murder. It only applied to the colony of Massachusetts.

    It gave the royal governor more power. It took power away from the colonists. It put Massachusettes under the control of the king
