    Immigarnts from the Caribbean would arrive at Ellis Island in New York. New comers would go through rural inspection at Ellis Island taking 5 hours or more. Anyone found with a disease would be sent home.

    Immigrants worked small jobs such as bakeries, factories, and some women were maids for upper class families. They lived in apartment complexes, sometimes with another family and many rooms didnt have windows, were only ten feet wide, they were filthy, damp, and had a foul odor. they were payed low wages for long periods of work but it was better than what they came from.
