  • Clarity Act

    This act allowed the House of Commons to overide referendums if it violated a tenet of the Clarity Act. The act was for the government to put down any referendum that was unclear and that could lead to secession.
  • Youth Criminal Justice Act

    PM Jean Chrétien passed this act to replace the Young Offenders Act that was passed in 1984. The goal of this act is to provide an effective and timely response to offending behaviour so that children will not be criminals in the future.

  • Harper asks Governor General to Prorogue

    Harper asked Michaëlle Jean to prorogue parliament. Prorogue means shutting down the government for a session. Harper shut down the government because he was about to have no confidence and supply in a vote the following Monday. This was strategic of Harper so he could stay in power as the Prime Minister.
