Jaques Cartier
Jaques Cartier 1491-1557. He was a French explorer who led 3 expeditions to Canada. He was looking for a route to the pacific through North America but didnt find it. So instead tried to start a settlement in Quebec but it was abandoned in a cold winter (1541). He named Canada after the Huron-Iroqouis word Kanata which means Village. -

Henry Kelsey
Henry Kelsey 1667-1724. He was a British Explorer of inland Canada. On an expedition lasting from 1688-1690 he traveled to Churchill river region. During his second expedition between 1690-1692 he was the first European to see Canadian praries. He extended the trade routes of the Hudson Bay Company's trade routes by negotiating with various first nations tribes. -
James Cook
James Cook 1728-1779. He was a British Explorer who went on lots of expedition to the Pacific Ocean, Antarctic, Arctic and around the world. His journey between 1772-1775 he sailed to the Antarctic and Easter Island. In his last expedition between 1776-1779 he was in search of a Northwest passage to Asia and China. -
Simon Fraser
Simon Fraser 1776-1862. He was a fur trader and explorer. He imagrated from America to Canada after the American Revolution in 1792 Fraser began working for the north West Company of Montreal. He followed what he thought was the Columbia river down to it mouth in Musqueam but it wasnt Columbia River it was another unknown river. Later that river was named the Fraser River by David Thompson. -
Leif Eriksson
Leif Eriksson was a viking who may have been the first Europpean to explore North America. He sailed from Greenland then went along the coast of Baffin Bay down to Laborador and landed in what is now Newfoundland. He possibly sailed in the year 1000. He sailed a crew of 35 people probably headed to Vinland but ended up discovering parts of Canada -
Eric the Red
Eric the Red 950-1003. He was a viking explorer, the first European to sail to North America. He sailed from Iceland in 982 and led colonist to Greenland in 986. He was born in Norway but his family moved to Iceland because his father was banished for killing a man. He called the new land he found Greenland. Greenland was covered in ice and he wanted to make it sound better then it was. When he sailed he found Gunnbjorn's islands and then landed on the coast of Eastern Greenland.
