British first arrived in Burma

May 7, 1824

The War between British and Myanmar started due to the invasion of Britains forces.

The end of all wars and change of name

May 7, 1885

Myanmar lost the war to the British, and now was fully colonized by the British. The british then changed the name of Myanmar to Burma.

Change of flag

May 16, 1937

In 1937, Britain changed the Burmese flag into more of a British flag.

Japanese Invasion

May 7, 1942

In 1942, The Japanese had assisted formation of the Burma Independence Army. The Burmese hoped to gain support of the Japanese in expelling the British, so that Burma could become independent. They also changed the flag of Burma to a Japanese flags.

Japanese leaves Burma

May 16, 1945

In 1945, Burma had driven out Japan.

Indepence

Jan 4, 1948

On the 4th of January 1948, after 63 years of colonizing Burma, the British decided to give Burma independence.
