British acts

  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The Sugar Act was passed to reduce the debt from the French and Indian war. It says that you can't bring Molasses or syrups without paying tax. The colonist were outraged that they were taxed for sugar.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    It was passed to protect soldiers against threats from remaining Frenchmen and Native Americans. The British soldiers were sent to the colonies. The act says that British soldiers can stay in colonist homes. Colonist were mad because they had to share their home and food with soldiers.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The colonist didn't like the Sugar act so the Minister past the Stamp act because he felt the citizens already paid similar tax. This meant for every paper you had needed to get a stamp to be used or sold. The colonist did not like this because they had to pay more tax.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    This act would help stop the colonist from smuggling and gave British soldiers more power. Anyone with government power are allowed to walk on to your properties and check your stuff for smuggling. If they didn't answer the door the soldiers would knock it over. Many colonist were often scared and afraid because they didn't want come into their house and check their stuff.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Passed to help the East India company because they were going through financial problems. Tea must be from a licences tea company which was the East India company. The colonist were furious because the price power is in the East India companies hands.
  • Boston Port Act

    Boston Port Act
    Massachusetts dumped a bunch of tea into the Boston Harbor during the Boston Tea Party as a protest of the Tea Act. The act said that people couldn't load ships and ship it into the harbor of Boston until the money for the tea was paid. Colonist thought it was intolerable and thought they should have freedom.
  • Massachusetts Government Act and Administration of Justice Act

    Massachusetts Government Act and Administration of Justice Act
    The Act was passed because King George III was Starting to think Britain was losing control of the thirteen colonies. They say no one can have a private meeting without the government's approval. People thought this was very unfair.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    The Quebec Act was passed so Great Britain could get more tax from the colonist. The act says that Great Britain would won over Quebec for more taxes. The colonist were mad because they had to pay more money for taxes. The Quebec Act was passed by the British Parliament.
