The book starts with The Director of the London Hatchery and Conditioning Centre giving a tour of the process of growing and brainwashing humans in tubes. -
Bernard and Lenina on a date
Bernard finds Lenina attractive, but wants to get to know her personally rather than just having sex. When he asks her out on a date, she publicly discusses their plan for sex and he becomes very embarrassed. -
Bernard and Lenina go on Vacation
After their first date, Bernard and Lenina plan a vacation to go to the savage reservation in New Mexico. The Director accidentally and without care, reveals his backstory with Bernard about how he lost his wife there. The Director says Bernard is not allowed to go, but he rebels and goes anyways. -
Helmholtz Calls Bernard
Helmholtz calls Bernard and informs him that The Director is planning on deporting Bernard to an island when he returns from his vacation because he disobeyed the Director. Bernard becomes worried and takes Soma to relax and be calm. -
Bernard Discovers John and Linda together
After conversing for a little while, he finds out that Linda got stranded while visiting from the World State, and had John soon after. Bernard puts two and two together and realizes that this is the wife of The Director, and not wants to take both John and Linda back to use as blackmail to The Director. -
Bernard Brings Home John and Linda (London)
Bernard calls Mustapha Mond and they both agree that it would be of scientific interest to bring home these two individuals from the reservation. When they get home, Bernard visits The Director. The Director tells Bernard that he is deported to an island, but before he can leave, Bernard brings out John and Linda. This embarresses The Director because in the World State, there are no families or children. -
Linda dies, John gets Upset
In the World State, Linda is very unhappy and overuses Soma, eventually leading to her death. Since everyone has been programmed to not care about death, John gets upset that he's the only one who cares about his mother's death. -
John, Helmholtz, and Bernard are Taken into Custody
Helmholtz and Bernard show up shortly before the police, and the three men are taken into custody of Mustapha Mond. Bernard rats out the other two and leaves the scene. Helmholtz realizes that the best option for freedom is to go to an island, so he does just that. John wants to go to an island, but Mustapha Mond does not want him to do so to continue the experiment. -
John Commits Suicide at the end of the story
People start visiting the lighthouse where John has because famous. When Lenina shows up, John hates himself for wanting her and continues flogging himself. This turns into a huge orgy, and in the midst John has sex with Lenina. The next morning, he wakes up and realizes what he has done. He is so upset that he hangs himself and commits suicide.
