Slavery was started in 1619 and through 1865 when the 13th amendmen6t was passed saying that slavery be ended.The north did not agree with the slavery so they were called the free states. Dred Scott was A African American man who sued the government because him and his owner moved to a non slave state. Dred Scott's master still tried to make him work and be a slave but he did not want that so he sued for his freedoms and rights. It was to help poor whites and blacks.It was after slavery was abolished and slaves had no money or no where to live so the Freedman bureau helped them.
