Faith and hope in a war-torn land: the US Army chaplaincy in the Balkans Eastern Orthodox Serbs, Roman Catholic Croats, and Muslims gathered in Sarajevo after voting for indepedence in a multiethnic peace demonstration. On this day the Yugoslav national army and Serb nationalist militants began schelling the crowd from roof tops killing scores of unarmed citizens.
