    The Commander In Chief is in charge of the armed forces such as the Army, Navy, Air Force (est. September 18, 1947), Marines (est. November 19,1775) and, the Coast Gaurd (est, August 7,1789). The President shares this power with Congress. James Madison preformed this role by his first year in office he prohibited trade with Britain and Frnace. In May !810 congree repealed his act and allowed trade. Madison then provclaimed non intercourse with Great Britain and asked Congress to Declare War.

    A Chief Diplomat is how the U.S. acts towards other countries. The President works directly with the Secratary of State. James Knox Polk filled this seat by before he even stepped foot into the office, Congress passed a joint resolution leaving Polk with a possibility of war with Great Britain which could put diplomatic relations at risk. He decided to extend the Candian Boreder which satisfied Britiain and allowed us to avoid war.

Then in the 1830's he went to Washington as a represenative and then was bumoed up to a senator. He wa then Propesed as president by the Democratic Party and began supporting the Compromise of 1850.

Abraham Lincoln proposed the 13th Amendment which abolished slavery. it was passed ny the senate on April 8, 1864 and it was then passed by the House of Represenatives on January 31,1865 with a vote of 119 to 56.

He then broke tradition by appearing before Congree to appeal for his tariff proposal.
