    French and Indian War
    In 1763, the French and Indian War in North America caused Britain to drain in treasury. King George III and his advisors thought that the colonist should help pay for the wars so Parliament passed the Sugar Act and Stamp Act. The Colonists was angry because they had no representatives in Parliament and they had to pay taxes.
  • Increased Taxes

    Increased Taxes
    Parliament increased taxes on the Colonists to help pay for the wars. In 1764, they passed the Sugar Act which imposed import taxes and the Stamp Act in 1765 which imposed taxes on items such as newspaper and pamphlets. Colonist believed that they shouldn't have payed taxes because they have no representative in Parliament. "No taxation without representation" is what the Colonist protested but later on in 1766, Parliament repealed the Stamp Act.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    In March 1770, The British killed 5 protesters and the Colonist called it the Boston Massacre. The Colonist was angered so in 1773, a handful of colonist threw British tea into the harbor and that's known as the Boston Tea Party. Because The British and The Colonist was fighting so much, representatives in each colony decided to to meet up in a Continental Congress in Philadelphia to decide what action to take.

    The American Revolution Continues
    Britain had numerous of trained soldiers, a huge fleet, and greater resources. 1/3 of the American Colonist supported Britain. Although the Colonist lacked military resources, had little money to pay soldiers, and did not have a strategic plan, they were fighting on their own soil so they knew the land and the Colonist had a fearless leader, George Washington whom helped the Colonist conquer Britain. The Colonist had fierce determination to fight for their ideals of liberty.

    The Constitution Becomes Supreme Law of the Land
    In 1787, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and James Madison met to redraft the articles of the new constitution because Articles of Confederation was too weak for the U.S.The constitution created a federal republic with power divided between federal, national, government and the states and gave people basic rights that the government must protect known as the Bill of Rights. In 1789, the Constitution became the supreme law of the land which means it became the nations fundamental law.
