Actual Event: Smallpox Blankets
During the French and Indian War, British forces planned to spread smallpox. Under the direction of Sir Jeffrey Amherst, the British troops handed out blankets used by victims of smallpox. Many Native Americans were infected. -
Actual Event: Anton Dilger
Dr. Anton Dilger, a German-American, grew cultures of anthrax and glanders in his lab in Washington, D.C. The viruses and an inoculation device were given to dockworkers in Baltimore, Maryland with intentions of infecting 3,000 horses, mules, and cattle being shipped to the allied troops in Europe. Undercover German agents reported to their superiors that several hundred troops were infected by the viruses, along with the animals. -
Actual Event: Japan's Trials
During World War II, the Japanese military used biological warfare against China. They used humans as their test subjects for various disease agents, including anthrax, cholera, typhoid, and plague. Over 10,000 people were killed during these trials. -
Actual Event: Monkey Testing
The US military held a massive field test of biological warfare agents, involving a fleet of ships, caged monkeys, and the release of deadly biological weapons. Soviet spies who were lurking in nearby waters collected samples of the agents tested. Later that year, president Richard Nixon banned the U.S. biological program and destroyed all stockpile weapons. -
Actual Event: Bulgarian Exile
A Bulgarian exile was injected with a steel ball impregnated with ricin while in London. Over a course of days, George Markov, went from being febrile and tachycardic to being anuric and vomiting blood, eventually going into heart block and dying. The Bulgarian government carried out the assassination with the help of their supplier the Soviet Union. -
Actual Event: USSR
In the city of Sverdlovsk, USSR, toxins were released from an explosion of Military Compound 19. Days later, citizens downwind experienced high fevers, difficulty breathing, and death. Doctors treated it as an outbreak of inhalation anthrax, while the government blamed the situation on anthrax-contaminated beef. The real cause was an accidental release of anthrax spores in a biological weapons program announced in 1992. -
Actual Event: Parliament Building
Aum Shinrikyo cult members outfitted a car to disperse botulinum toxin. It was dispersed through an exhaust system. They then drove the car around the Japanese parliament building. -
Actual Event: Trying to Obtain Ebola
The Japanese Aum Shinrikyo cult traveled to Zaire. They claimed to want to "assist" victims of the Ebola virus. three years later it was revealed that the cults real motivation was to obtain the virus samples and use them for biological attacks. -
Actual Event: Roof Spraying
Aum Shinrikyo cult members attempted to spread anthrax. Over a four day period, sprayer system from the roof of a downtown building released the toxins onto the people of Japan. They weren't as successful as they planned to be. -
Actual Event: Subway Attack
Aum Shinrikyo cult members planted 3 briefcases designed to release botulinum toxin yet again. The cases were set in a Tokyo subway. The attack was averted when a cult member substituted a nontoxic agent instead. -
The Cobra Event: First Victim of the Virus
A locally know homeless man, AKA Harmonica Man, died at the Times Square Subway Station. He seized in front of a massive crowd, biting off his tongue and hands while hemorrhaging. He dies with his spine frozen in a C shape, known as an arc de circle seizure (a fake seizure because seizures don't cause the spine to curve). -
The Cobra Event: Kate Moran's Death
Kate Moran wakes up with a cold and very little memory of bad dreams. During her art class, two girls take her to the bathroom where she begins to seize on the floor. After she uncontrollably bites off her lips and curls her spine into the shape of a C, she dies. -
The Cobra Event: Snap Inspection
In Iraq, Will Hopkins and Mark Littleberry of UNSCOM 247 break away from their chief inspector and do a rogue snap inspection on the Al Ghar Agricultural Facility. They meet the consulting engineer, Dr. Mariana Vestof, and the general manager, Dr. Hamaq and Littleberry discovers a Level 4 mobile hot zone tucked behind an unmarked door. Hopkins gets inside the truck with the bioreactor and swabs a crystal-like hexagon before getting thrown out of the truck. -
The Cobra Event: Kate Moran's Autopsy
Alice Austen, along with Lex Nathanson and Glenn Dudley, inspect Kate Moran at the O.C.M.E. in New York City. They find blood blisters all over the inside of her mouth, and nose, yellow/golden pupillary rings in the irises of her eyes, and golden streaks in her kidneys. The brain is silvery in color, swollen, and speckled with red dots, which leads Austen to determine the virus Kate was infected with attacks the Central Nervous System. -
The Cobra Event: Third Victim of the Virus
Trying to find out more about this virus, Alice Austen calls hospitals around the New York City area asking if they've had a similar case to Kate's and Harmonica Man's. At the St. George Hospital on Staten Island, a girl named Penelope Zecker died with the same symptoms. Alice finds no connections between the 3 locations spread throughout NYC. -
The Cobra Event: Victim 4 of the Virus
In order to find more information about the virus, Alice Austen has Ben Kly from the O.C.M.E. take her to Houston Street in search of Harmonica Man's best friend, Lem. While searching the unused F subway tunnel, the two find a man, with a deeply arched back, an abnormally swollen abdomen, and his eye sockets pulled out and clenched between his fingers. They also find a bag with 2 silver harmonicas near the man, which leads them to infer Harmonica Man had lived there. -
The Cobra Event: Connecting the Dots
In Penelope's ledger, Alice finds an account of a box Penelope had sold at the Sixth Avenue Flea Market, which was to Kate Moran. Alice discovers that the same box is in Kate's room and is the same crystal shape of the ones in Kate's brain. Alice also discovers the box has a grayish powder inside along with the words Human Trial #2 April 12th Archimedes Fecit, concluding the box is a biological bomb. When searching through Harmonica Man's hoodie, an identical second box is found. -
The Cobra Event: Peter is Infected
After realizing he was lost in downtown Brooklyn, the very sick Peter Talides(Kate's art teacher) gets off the subway and sits down with his head between his knees on a bench, while his midbrain dies. A nearby officer taps his shoulder and Peter has a startle seizure, causing him to fall onto the wet tracks and in front of an oncoming train. The train conductor pulls the emergency breaks, sending an electrical current down the tracks and to Peter's head, causing it to explode. -
The Cobra Event: Glenn Goes Mad
Alice Austen goes into the autopsy room where Peter Talides lay on the table to tell Glenn and Ben that the body is still hot with the virus. Glenn Dudley is showing signs of the virus, and as soon as Ben and Alice try to make a break for it, Glenn grabs a scalpel and points it toward Alice. Ben turns Glenn's attention toward himself and Glenn slices through Ben's neck, decapitating him. Glenn then makes a coronial incision on himself and pulls it over his face, beginning to eat it then dies. -
The Cobra Event: Forming a Plan
Alice Austen, Mark Littleberry, and Hopkins inform the Federal government of the potential biological attack along with the help of the C.D.C and USAMRIID in a SIOC call down. They decide to take action together to find and stop the perpetrator by setting up their studies on Governor's Island, a private island off Manhattan owned by the Coast Guard. After getting all the equipment needed in Quantico, Virginia, the Reachdeep transforms the Governor's Island hospital into a Level 3 hot zone -
The Cobra Event: Archimedes is Introduced
Archimedes remains undercover making his virus he calls "brain pox" which is the Cobra virus. He watches the catepillars in his insectary and how that insect strain of the virus causes catepillars to eat until they melt into a pile of virus crystals. The more aggressive human strain is made in his bioreactor that pumps out a virus-filled sludge where he then dries the sludge into glass hexagons. -
The Cobra Event: Suzanne's Mice
Late in the night, Suzanne checks up on her mice for the cobra virus that she had injected from Glenn Dudley's brain matter the night before. As she is drawing blood from one of the mice, he flips out of her hand and bites through her latex glove, puncturing her finger with two red dots. Frightened she will catch the virus, Suzanne debates about chopping her finger off in order to avoid the spread throughout her blood stream, but instead she acts like it never happened. -
The Cobra Event: Discovering Cobra
While meeting a boy with the Lesch-Nyhan disease at Bio-Vek(private company that studies this disease), Mark Littleberry discovers a Level 3 hot zone in the back. In the room, a bioreactor is pumping out a pinkish liquid filled with sick and dying cells. Mark takes a swab of the virus and uses his biosensor to identify the sample; the screen reads "Cobra." Mark runs into Dr. Vestof from the lab in Iraq, leading them to connect Iraq and BioVek as parter producers of the Cobra virus -
The Cobra Event: Chasing Tom Cope
The Reachdeep locates Tom Cope (the man who was fired from BioVek but was creating his own strains) and puts surveillance and military force around his apartment. Tom escapes through a dumb waiter in his kitchen to the basement and goes into the subway tunnels with his biological bomb set. Meanwhile the Reachdeep shuts down all subway trains to attempt to trap him in the tunnels. -
The Cobra Event: Finding Tom's Biological Bomb
Will Hopkins, trapped upside down in a shaft, finds himself 3 feet away from Tom's biological bomb. Unable to move closer to it, Hopkins builds himself a probe out of pencils, pens, swabs, and duct tape. The bomb topples over, and the virus contents shatter all over the ground. Hopkins disarms the bomb with 2 seconds left. -
Actual Event: Anthrax Mail
Anthrax-contaminated letters were sent through the United States Postal Service. A total of 22 cases of anthrax were identified; 11 were confirmed as inhalation anthrax and 11 (seven confirmed and four suspected) were cutaneous. Many experts believe that the perpetrators were homegrown extremists.
