Background
There is someone who has been sending Miranda notes that talk about events in her life and they have all been right. The first note says that the writer is coming to save his life and Miranda's best friend's. -
Setting
The story takes place in New York City, in 1978-1979. -

Rising Action 1: Conflict
Sal and Miranda were walking back home from school. Sal got punched by Marcus and got a bloody nose, but Miranda didn't do anything. This started the end of their friendship. -

Rising Action 2
Miranda gets called down to the office to be a helper and take/bring kids back to their classrooms after seeing the dentist. Marcus is one of those people. They start talking about Miranda's book and why he gave Sal a bloody nose. -
Rising Action 3
After Miranda loses Sal as a best friend, she meets a girl named Annemarie, who just lost Julia as a best friend. Miranda and Annemarie become best friends. -
Rising Action 4
Since Miranda's mom doesn't feel comfortable giving her boyfriend Richard a key, she and Miranda choose to hide a spare key in the fire hose in the lobby. They think it is a good decision because it is dusty and it is never used. -
Rising Action 5
The spare key to Miranda's apartment is stolen and the door is unlocked, but after looking thoroughly around the apartment, they discover that nothing has been stolen except for one of Richard's shoes. -
Rising Action 6
Colin wants to make more money, so every school day at lunch, him, Annemarie, and Miranda head down to Jimmy's so they can make subs. -
Rising Action 7
Miranda is reading A Wrinkle In Time, so Marcus tries to explain time travel to her. It doesn't work. All Miranda gets is confused. -
Rising Action 8
When Colin Miranda, and Annemarie started working at Jimmy's, Jimmy told them not to look at his Fred Flinstone bank. Colin and Miranda both looked inside and found tons of $2 bills. Then the bank was stolen. -
Climax/Turning Point
On his way home from school, Sal sees Marcus coming towards him, and thinking Marcus wanted to punch him, he started running. Marcus starts to chase him, and Sal runs into the street. He almost gets hit by the truck and the laughing man saves him but dies trying, and Sal breaks two ribs and his arm. -
Falling Action 1
Miranda figures out that the laughing man is Marcus from the future, and that he used a time machine to get here. She also finds out that the laughing man has been the one sending her notes, and that he was trying to save Sal's and his life because he knew Sal would die if he didn't save him. -
Falling Action 2
When Sal gets back from the hospital, Miranda goes down to see him and they become friends again. -
Falling Action 3
Miranda becomes friends with Julia, who she used to think was annoying, but now thinks is ok because she told Miranda that Annemarie had epilepsy. -
Falling Action 4
Miranda and Julia make Annemarie a cake for her birthday. They make a cake from a recipe they found in a cook book, and it is a special cake for people with epilepsy. -
Falling Action 5
Since the laughing man sent Miranda a letter saying that he wanted a letter from her about everything that happened, she wrote one and gave it to Marcus. -
Resolution 1
One day, Colin comes over to Miranda's apartment to play basketball with Sal. When they stop for a brake, Colin runs up to Miranda's room, and when Miranda opens the door, he gives her a kiss and runs back downstairs. They become boyfriend and girlfriend. -
Resolution 2
Miranda looks under the laughing man's mail box and sees a picture of an old woman who has the same features as Julia. She realizes that in the future, Marcus and Julia get married. -
Resolution 3
Miranda's mom appears on The $20,000 Pyramid and, after making it through the first round and through half of the second round, gets $10,000.
