    In 1908 the belgian congo was colinized by the belgian government. Before the congo was imperialized and colonized, their was no government. When the government was created, they saw the congo as an opportunity to gain land and power. Also before the government controlled the congo, the congo was controlled by king leopold ruling over the private land.

    King Lepold decided he wanted full control of Belgium so on November 15 he said he declaired himself the full ruler. Meaning he was now in controll of Belgium and all the choices made. Lepold did not want to rule with anyone else so he became the single ruler of Belgium at this time

    During WWl the congo was involved in 2 wars. They were also involved in the East African Campaign. Also durning WWI the congo was used heavily for a source of weapons and money for the belgian government. The people of the colony had to work very hard to support this.

    Before imperialism the beligan congo was a free state. It was located in central africa. Even though the beligan congo was so big, it was one of the last free states to be colonized. The congo was located inside a big jungle with many exotic animals. Citizens of the belgian congo spoke many different languages and they didn't have many "urbanized" traditions.

    Their were about 20 to 30 million people living in the belgian congo before it got colonized. The people spent most of their days working. They lived within small villages inside of the belgian congo. The lower class was very poor and had limited sources of food. They had to hunt and capture their own food. The people in the higher class of the congo had alot of items to trade like handmade figures and bowls. They used the money they got from the items to get food and support themselves.

    European Imperialism brought many new schools and formal education systems to the congo. Also they worked on teaching the people a new and advanced language system. Also health care in the congo was introduced and improved.
    Not all results of the european imperialism were good. The imperialism caused alot of racism and problems. The culture was weakend and the individual rights were weakend.
