    Henery Stanley was send to Africa to find David Livongston, a missnoary that went missing. After finding Livingston, Stanley decied to explore Africa himself. He traced the course of Congo's river.

    King Leopld II became very intrested in Stanley's explorations. With that King Leopld demaded that Stanley would help him with gaining control of Congo. After Standley got a few treaties signed from local cheifs of the Congo River valleys the land was offically owned by King Leopld II of Belguim.

    Congo was renamed as Congo Free State and it was completely controlled by King Leopold II. Leopold wanted the raw materials in the land like rubber and ivory. Leopold forced every tribal group to produce certain about a rubber or ivory.

    If Leopold wasn’t pleased he would discipline the Africans by using a whip and whipped them about fifty times, this goes for children and adults. Took make sure that the quotas of rubber and ivory was always met he would hold women and children captive in poor conditions, making the men work harder in order to reach the demands and their love ones safety. Many Africans had to put less time on food production in order to reach the demands of rubber and ivory, this resulting in starvation.

    Many African tribes tried to fight back Leopold. Some tribes that tried for years fighting back were the Boa, Budja, Yaka and the Chokwe but then were all later controlled. The tribes failed to protect their selves because they didn’t have excess to modern weapons likes machine guns. All the revolts was put down by Leoplod's army, the Force Publique.

    Millions were killed because of the awful treatment Leopold used, forced him to hand over Congo Free State to Belgian goverment. Belgian govement then renamed it as Belgian Congo. They way of rule didnt change as much, many labor practices contuined. Changes were mainly mad regarding the land ownership.

    The people of Belgian expeireced a new set of rules. They werent allowed to attend collage and the empolyment opportuines was most likely not professinal and mangemenr jobs. There was no election, so the people joined social and relgious clubs. This was the started of independence movement.

    Belgian started to lose control on what was happeing in Congo. Eventually this turned to Congo earning thier independence.

    In year 1960 Joseph Kasavubu became president and was in charge. Five years later Joseph Mobutu gained controlled and renamed the country Zarie. He took control of over foreign- owned and shared the companies with his associates. Many of these businesses failed, making the economy crumble but him and his people became very wealthy. Many people weren’t happy about this so they attacked. After years of fighting a man name Laurent Kablia took then final strike at Kasavubu and sent away.

    Laurent Kablia took control and renamed the country back Democratic Republic of Congo. In his many years of ruling he gotten into many wars with others, Fianlly he got shot and died in year 2001
