    British leaders wanted to get new colonial revenues from the colonies. Opposition was widespread and often violent.
    The fight between colonists and the British army started in April 1775 in Lexintong and Massachusetts.

  • "Common Sense"

    Thomas Paine published a persuasive pamphlet called Common Sense, in this pamphlet Paine said that monarchies had been set up by seizing power from the people. This pamphlet changed the public opinion.
  • The Declaration of Independence

    The Declaration of Independence
    On July 4, 1776, the Second continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson. With this the American Revolution had formally begun.
