The first thing that Darwin sees when he arrives in Cape Town, is Table Mountain.

While the animals he sees are interesting, he is still seasick, he is homesick, and the detour is unwelcome. He says that he loaths the sea and all the ships that sail it.

Arriving late at night, Darwin's head is spinning (literally; sea legs) with the information he gained during his trip. He is glad to be home, for the ship had been uncomfortable.
