The battle of Gettysburg ended the South's last attemp to invade the North. From that point on, Confederate forces fought a defensive war in Southern Territory.

General Lee arrives in full dress uniform to surrender his army to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House. Grant's terms of surrender were generous and allowed the Confederate Soldiers to go home if they promised not to fight anymore. They could take their own horses and weapons. Food was also sent to the Confederate Soldiers. Grant would not allow the Union Soldiers to celebrate after the war, saying the soldiers on both sides were countrymen again.
