    The fight was over Fort Sumter. It was one of the few federal installations that hadn't been surrendered to the confederates. The North was protecting it. In the end, the North surrendered. The South had crossed the line and started a war. This was the very first battle but no blood was shed.
  • The Battle of Bull Run

    The Battle of Bull Run
    The North wanted revenge from the first battle. They tried to ambush confederate soldiers but it did not work. The North and South both had the same battle plans. The North was outnumbered. The south won the battle again. Both commanders learned that their soldiers were not well prepared to fight.
  • 7 Days Battle

    7 Days Battle
    This battle consisted of 6 battles throughout 7 days. They were near Virginia. Robert Lee had to lead the south because the former general was hurt. The north and South did various attacks on each other. In the end, the Confederates won. The South lost 20,000 people. The North lost about 16,000 people. This battle took a toll on both armies.
  • Fredericksburg Battle

    It was fought in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The Confederate Army was led by Robert Lee. The Union Army was led by General Ambrose Burnside. The Confedarate Army won the battle. The Union lost 11,000 men. The Confederate lost only half of that number.
  • Vicksburg Battle

    The Confederate Fortress controlled the Mississippi River. That meant that they controlled what ever went through. The Union general wanted to find a way to get around it. In the end, the north gained control of Mississippi.
  • Petersburg Battle

    Petersburg Battle
    It took place in Petersburg, Virginia. The Union's first attack was unsuccessful. The Union's leader Ulysses Grant lost a lot of people but he could afford the loss. Grant constructed a series of trenches around Petersburg. This helped him win the battle. The Confederacy surrendered. The Union had won the Civil War. This battle lasted until March 25, 1865.
