Second Bank
When Maddison had reached office, he originally opposed the creation of another bank but he soon admitted that the U.S could use one. Congress rejected the efforts to create a new bank, but soon the financial and economic state of the U.S was deteriorating, so Madison had made this second bank so they could have a stable paper currency and to help with the economic state of the U.S -
McCulloch v. Maryland
This case consisted of a question asking if any state had the right to tax any agency of the U.S government. Maryland lawyers said it was okay cause it wasn't in denied powers, and they questioned if congress had the right to make a bank. Congress said that they did have the right because one it was part if their right to implied powers and two it was "necessary and proper" and that Maryland could not have their taxes cause it violates the principal of supremacy of the national government. -
Government Money
This day, Jackson fired his Secretary of Treasury (William J. Duane) because he refused to take the money and withdraw it from the government deposits and but it in the state banks. -
Federal Deposits
This was when Jackson decided that he was going to take the federal tax revenues(which were a big source of federal funds), and put them into the state banks which were given the nickname of "pet banks" because of how loyal they were to Jacksons party. -
Election of 1836
This was the election between Martin Van Buren and several Whig Party candidates that were led by William Henry Harrison. Van Buren was going to take Jacksons place because this was the end of Jacksons second term, and while at the time a lot of people were against Jackson factions, it was still more popular than Whig party leading to Van Buren (the democratic party) wining the election. -
Election of 1840
By the time this election came around a two party system in American government became pretty solid. This election was between Van Buren and Harrison, and during the fist national convention for the Whigs they picked Harrison over Clay because they believed that they had found a new Andrew Jackson given Harrisons military background. The results of this election resulted in the winning of Harrison who was for the Whig party.
