Serge Diaghilev Dies
Serge Diaghilev was the director of the Ballet Russe in Paris until his death. He died in Venice,Italy in 1929. He had been in control since 1909 and owned it for 2 decades. He made Ballet Russe very popular which led to them traveling all over the world, but with his death led to a downfall in Ballet Russe. -
Ballet Russe Collapses
After Diaghilev dies Ballet Russe changes.It collapses giving the dancers little hope. Avant Garde was in at the time so the needed someone who could help them and take over the company and bring it back to life. -
Blum & Basil Take over
In 1932 Blum and Basil take over becoming the new directors and renaming it "Ballet Russe De Monte Carlo". They searched for new talent. And it is still located in Paris. -

The Ballet Russe ensembles for the first time in in 1932. They chose three female Russian dancers . Those girls were Tamara, Irina, and Tania. The preformed in dances like "Jeux d'enfants by Leonide Massine and "Les Sylphide" by Michael Fokine. Also George Balanchine choreographs some of there pieces. -

Leonide Massine was known as the greatest choreographer in the world at the time. So in 1937 he leaves with hopes of starting his own ballet company. -

In 1938 they both grow and prepare for there big debut. They preform Pas De Quatre including famous dancer in the show Alicia Markova who dances in the nutcracker. -

The Ballet Russe starts the ballet wars by dividing into two different groups competing. They fought over dancers and over who would have the original name. -
Serge Denham takes over
After Blum leaves Serge Denham takes over the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. He also led them to some great accomplishments in his time there. He took the dancers to Australia for 7 months. -
Return From Australia
They spent 7 months in Australia. There time there made Sydney and Melbourne big city names in the dance industry. Also Leonide Massine returns to the ballet Russe in 1939. -
Preform in America
In 1939 the Ballet Russe decides to move its location to America to avoid the war in Europe. They go to New York City for there next big debut. The same day they arrived they preformed that night and became a big hit there. Both the Ballet Russe's later on become stranded in the U.S.A.
