What: Polk wanted to purchase texas but Mexico never reconized its independce.

Why: Wanted to expand the nation.
So what: Pico commanded soliders against U.S forces, the U.S won and got land and payed Mexico for the damages. -

Why: Both sides need to come to an agreement after the war they fought.
So What: Mexico gives up some of its land and the U.S pays 15 million. -

What: the U.S purchased the section of land

Why: Pierce want the 30,000 miles of land for railroad expansion
