When: 1810-1821
Why: The people of New Spain began to rebel against their government. They disliked the political and economic reforns intiated by Spain.
So What? It's important because it shows how important democracy is. Mexico was able to get their own independence. -
Texas Independence from Mexico
Who: People from Texas
What: The Texas Declaration of Independence was the formal declaration of the republic of Texas from Mexicao in the Texas revolution.
Where: Texas, Mexico
When: March 2, 1836
Why: So Texas can have it's own independence.
So what? This is important to history because Texas wouldn't be part of the United States. -
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
Who: Mexicans and Reies Lopez Tijerina
What: The treaty called for Mexico to give up almost half of its territory, which included modern day California and Arizona.
Where: Texas border at the Rio Grande.
When: 1848
Why: For property, United States did not grant Mexicans land.
So What? This is important because it shows that Mexicans were not granted what they asked for by the United States. -
Mexican American War
Who: United States and Mexico
What: It was a United States victory
Where: Texas, New Mexico, California, Northern Central, Eastern Mexico, Mexico City
When: April 25, 1848
Why: Mexico considered Texas part of its territory.
So What? The war ended all conflict between Mexico and the United States. We also ended up keeping Texas. -
Gadsden Purchase
Who: U.S President Franklin Pierce
What: He wished to secure land to fulfill railroad expansion to the west.
Where: Along Rio Grande, in the west.
Why: Claim land and see the final boundary between United States and Mexico.
So what? It's important because land was finally divided.
