Mexican-American War
Who: United States and MExico
What: They were fighting over territroy
Where: In California, New Mexico, and Rio Grande River
When: 1845-1848
Why: Both wanted the states Texas, New Mexico, California, Nevada, and Arizona.
So What? It shows how both countries wanted these states. -
Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
Who: U.S. and Mexican government
What: To end war so Mexico gave up half its upper territroy and the U.S. paid $15 million for them.
When: Feb. 2, 1848
Where: City of Guadalupe Hidalgo
Why: Wanted to end war and fighting
So What?: This shows how America got its' southern states. -
Gadsen Purchase
Who: United States and Mexico
What: The boundry between the U.S. and Mexico extended from the Gulf of Mexico, 8 miles north of El Paso, then West of the first branch of hte Gila RIver but this was an error.
Where: El Paso
When: 1853
Why: To end the war and United States purchased the land in question (southern part of Arizona).
So What?: Shows how El Rio Grande now seperates the U.S. and Mexico.
