James Cook charting the eastern shore of Australia was significant to us today because he was the first person to discover it. Without him discovering it, Australia could be completely different today in many ways. We are lucky a British person did it, rather than a European. -
Ben Franklin invents bifocal eyeglasses
The was important to Australia because many people develope or are born with eye problems. Eyeglasses helped many people that had blurry sight at long distance or short distance be able to see clearly. -
First European fleet to land in Australia.
Landing in New South Wales, Sydney. -

Eli Whitney invented the interchangable parts
Intercangeable parts were used on the first kind of guns, which soldiers used. Without these, soldiers wouldnt have had anything to shoot with. The invention of these changed the way war was forever. -

Many things today are run by batteries, the creation of batteries made it easier to run things because they were able to be run electricly. Not many people would have been able to Invent such a thing, but he was able to and made life a huge ammount easier for people then and people now. -
A settlement is founded at Risdon on the Derwent River.
The settlement is later moved to Sullivans Cove. -
Hobart is settled.
This is significant to Australia because it is the capital of Tasmania and it is the city we live in. Although it would have been discovered settled later, it is lucky that it was by the people that did, otherwise Hobart could be a very different place. -

Named the bank of New South, it is now Westpac. Westpac is one of the biggest banking companies in Australia and supplies many people with financial help. -
Slavery is abolished.
Although slavery was never a big thing in Australia, it was a terrible thing in European countries and many people were treated badly. It was a happy day for everyone, including Australians when it was gotten rid of. -
John Deere created the first steel plow.
The invention of the steel plow made farming a lot easier and faster. With the creation of the steel plow in America, the new plows would have made farming in Australia a huge amount easier. John Deere is now one of the most well know tractor making companies in the world. -

The University of Sydney was the first university in Australia, it was the start of higher education and helped people to chieve greater in their fields. It helped to provide jobs through the extra studdies. Australia now has many universities. -

It opened up the interior where the gold was and lots of people went to get gold. This didnt just make those who got the gold wealthy, but shop owners and many other people became more wealthy from the rush of gold. making it easier for people to buy and use the supplies offered by shops. -

New Kelly was by far the notorious bushranger, he killed many people and was punished for his crimes. After his hanging, he became folk legend. He is now a recognised as part of Australias history. -

This was important to Australia because, although rabies isnt in Australia, many people die from it. If it wasn't invented huge numbers of people would have died in the past 100+ years from the diisease. -

This is significant to Australia because it is now one of the most enjoyed and played sports in the country. The Australian cricket team was made after they defeated England in the first Ashes series, making a great rivalry. -

This is significant to Australia because we were the second place in the entire world to allow woman to do so. It was frowned apon back then, but we went ahead with it and now our prime minister is a woman. -

Australia becoming a federation is huge in the countries history, it was when the county got its first political system. The government. The government now controls everything and is what runs the country. Without it, Australia would be completely different. -

The Australian soldiers that fought at the first world war fought to save the lives of their families back home. They saved many lives and created a bright future for the living Australians today. -

The soldiers that fought at Gollipali saved every Australian. The held back the Turkish troops from making a charge. Without the Anzac soldiers, we would most likely be speaking Turkish and be completely different, we owe a great deal to them. -

The great war ending is huge in not just Australia but the world. The first world war was the killer of over 60,000 Australians alone. it was one of the shapers of the world, making and breaking relationships between countries.
