    Japan
    Small numbers of Japanese people started to migrate to Australia in the late 1800. They were attracted by the thriving pearl industry in the north. The industry started recruiting skilled Japanese divers to replace the previous Australians. By the early 1900s the population of Japanese in Australia was about 3500.

    In the mid- 1800s the settlers relised that horses and wagons would not be suitable when crossing the dry outback of centeral Australia, so camels were introduced. It was also nessesary to recruit cameleers people skilled to look after these animals. the first asian cameleers came to Australia in 1860s, their numbers grew in the following decades as new routes were established.

    Germany

    The Germans played a significant role in the early british settlement, the Germans were pushed out of their homes because the king of Prussia, Fredrick William III, put everyone who didn't worship a certain god in jail. When the Germans came to Australia they worked as farmers or blacksmiths but tons found succes in a wine production. By 1861 there was an estimated 10, 000 Germans in Victoria.

    China

    In the 1840s a few thousand Chinese arived in Australia. The amount of Chinese migrants rapidly increased following gold discoveries in the 1850s. By 1861 Chinese made up more than 3% of the Australian population. Violent anti-chinese riots broke out in Victoria and New South Whales, colonial governments passed laws to restrict Chinese migration. Eventually most of the Chinese migrants went back to China.
