    Australian Inventions Handbook Invented in Tasmania by the stationery company, Birchall's of Launceston, the notepad was made with the idea that ideas can be collated. Before then paper had been prodced and sold as individual sheets until the idea to back them cardbaord and bind them was invented.

    Surf Lifesaving Movement In 1906 at the Bondi Lifesaving Club, Lyster Ormsby, invented a cotton reel with an attached belt to help aid in saving people lives on the beach. A swimmer could wear a belt and swim to a distressed swimmer and then be pulled back by the reel on the beach.

    National Film and Sound Archive, Australia The first feature film did not actually occur in Hollywood. On Boxing Day in 1906, in Melbourne, the first dramatic feature film was shown to audiences. The story featured the notrious stories of the Kelly Gang bushrangers. It was seventy minutes long and in 1907 was deemed the longest movie ever made, Ofcourse, these days movies run for a longer time and with better graphics.

    The Vegemite Story Vegemite came onto the market in 1922 by The Fred Walker Company, which later became Kraft Food Company. Derived from brewers yeast chemist were able to create a spread that has now become a legendary food among Australians. The spread was high in Vitamin B and came in a two ounce (57 gram) jar labelled with 'Vegemite: Pure Vegetable Extract'.

    History- Speedos AustraliaSpeedos Australia Alexander McRea, a Scottish immigrant, set up Speedos in response to the beach culture that surrounded Bondi. Speedos were made with the intention for more movement and speed. With the ever growing swimming culture on Bondi Beach the "racerback" speedo became a popular item.

This was a huge deal because communication could be made at any time without the use of batteries or energy. Instead pilots and ground staff had to pedal wile reeling information into the radio.

    The Ute The Ute is another Aussie icon. In 1932 a farmer wrote to Ford asking to create a car that he could use to take the family to church on Sundays but also carry his livestock to the market. Ford responsed by giving the project to Lewis Bandt. By 1934 the Utlity vehicle was created.

    Hills Clothes HoistAfter coming home from the war Lance Hill was confronted by his wife complaining that her traditional clotheline was getting in the way of her lemon tree. His idea then included adding the clotheline on a rotary tube that would allow his wife to rotate her washing accordingly. The invention was originally made with almunium winding gear that would pull up the line. He turned his invention into a livelihood and still can be bought and seen in lots of Australian backyards today.

    Black Box flight recoder invented in MelbourneIn 1956, Dr David Warren of the Aeronautical Research Centre in Melbourne, created a flight recorder (known today as a Black Box). He called it ARL Flight Memory Unit. This would improve earlier models though Australian aviation dismissed the invention, instead the United Kingdom and America took on the development of the device which is now mandatory on all planes around the world.

Dr Graeame Clark designed the bionic ear and since then over 200, 000 people around allowing them to have their lives changed dramatically.

    Wi-Fi -Networking Technology Wi-Fi was created as a the brainchild of Dr. John O'Sullivan who worked for the CSIRO. The idea was to make LAN internet access faster and more reliable compared to the dial-up system. The coding is now used in every laptop, computer and mobile smartphone device.

    The Story of Google Maps In 2003 Australians Noel Gordon and Stephen Ma, patenerd with two Danish brothers in Sydney, developed a mapping system that people could load into their computers that allowed them to see the world at their finger tips. Pitching the idea Google the inventors sold off their idea and received high ranking jobs in the Google company at their head questers in Sydney.
