    Convicts came from Britain and Ireland. The journey was 25 000km. Sentences were for life, 10 years or 7 years. Men out numbered woman 4 to 1 and they were all about 26. Prisioners could have been from U.S.A, France, China, Hong Kong or Africa. Lots of people came with convicts as free settlers or professionals. Female convicts get to select convicts as maids or wives. Female convicts were sent to factories to work on clothes and supplies for the colonies. New migrants worked in building.

  • Gold was found in NSW

    The first payable gold was found in NSW. Edward Hargraves found the first gold in Offir. He was wealthy and had convicts. 2 convicts found gold. English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, German, American, Chinese for the riches. Birth of Australia as multicultural society.
  • Gold rush

    People came for gold. Victoria alone one third of gold at that time. 430 000 to 1.7 million people came to strike it rich. People arrived everyday.

    They didn’t know much about Australia. Xin Jin Shan means new gold mountain. Louis Ah Mouy immigrated before gold rush in Victoria. He became rich by gold. He was a share holder of common wealth bank. Buckland River goldfield. Many people didn’t like Chinese miners as they had better technique and found more gold. May were beaten or stolen money.
