The diggers refused to pay for a licence because some couldn't aford it and the troopers asked to see it too often. Lots of angry diggers held meetings to try and get rid of the licenses. The diggers at Ballarat built a fort and were ready to fight.

This was the day of the fight between the soliders and troopers vs the diggers. The fight lasted only 20 minuets and 25 diggers were killed and so were 5 soliders.
