On Sunday December the 3rd 1850 at dawn the troopers attacked the stockade and killed about 30 miners and 128 were taken to prison. Four soldiers died in the attack. The fight lasted 20 minutes. The soldiers and the troopers had planned the fight so they had a bigger chance. The men who died at Eureka retain a great place in Australian history. A statue now stands as a memory. Licences to mine were then dropped to 1 pound a year. This happened on 18th of November. They were allowed to vote.

In the stockade the miners raised their new flag that some wives made. It had a white cross and a dark blue background. Its called the Eureka flag.

In 2001 Australians celebrated the 150th anniverary of the official discovery of gold. They found it near Bathurst in New South Wales.
