On the 11 of may 1813, they set out from South Creek with four Packhorses, five dogs and enough supplies to last them for six weeks.
That same afternoon they crossed the nepean River at Emu Island and began the long hard climb up the first ridge. The going was far from easy, but by evening they had crossed the second ridge.
They camped that night on the furthest spot William Dawes had reached in his expediton of twenty four years before. -
