    Mary McKillop and Father Julian Tenison Woods established the Sisters of Joseph

    The Christian Brothers (also from Ireland) came to Melbourne

  • 1881- St Vincent de Paul Society

    St Vincent de Paul charities were permanently implemented in Australia

  • 1946- First Australian Cardinal

    Archbishop Gilroy becomes Australias first Cardinal

  • 1958- Bishop for Ukrainian Catholics

    Ivan Prasko arrived in Australia and become the Ukrainian Catholics first Bishop

  • 1986- John Paul ll visits Australia

    Pope John Paul ll visits Australia for the first time and in 1987 established the Melkite diocese in Australia .

  • 1996- Archbishop of Melbourne

    George Pell is appointed Melbourne's Archbishop
