Wall Street Crash
The Wall Street crash was the cause of the Great Depression. This not only affecting the US, but other global economies including Australia. The crash was caused by a result of various economic imbalances and structual failings. The crash ended on Tuesday 29th of October (on Black Tuesday) -
Anschlus between Germany and Austria
Austria was annexed into the German Third Reich on 12 March 1938. There had been several years of pressure by supporters from both Austria and Germany (by both Nazis and non-Nazis) for the "Heim ins Reich" movement. This is important because Nazi powers began to grow building up to WW2. -
The Blitz
Germany under Hitler bombed London, England. Germany attacked the big city with an average of 160 bombers. This is significant because this saw the commencement of WW2, Hitler began to show German rule and to influence his power. The Blitz ended on the 14th of November. -
Pearl Harbour
Japan bombed Pearl Harbour. There were many reasons as to why they attacked America because the US were cutting of Japan's oil supply but also so that the US weren't so strong in the south-pacific. The events at Pearl Harbour basically brought the US into WW2. The US being one of the super forces in the World. -
China becomes communist.
China is the biggest nation in the world. In a time when Russia wanted to take over all of Europe, China would be communist as well. China's communism still has affects today including limiting media and internet use. -
White Australia Policy
The White Australia Policy was Australias attitude towards immigration, This mean't that it was harder for people that weren't white were allowed to migrate to Australia. This gave Australia a bad name in History which lead to Australia to change its ways by 1973 when the policy was scraped. The policy started as early as the goldrush where white miners weren't happy about the Chinese miners fighting Lambing Flats. -
Referendum
A referendum was put out getting Australian's to vote on the question "DO YOU APPROVE the proposed law for the alteration of the Constitution entitled” 'An Act to alter the Constitution so as to omit certain words relating to the People of the Aboriginal Race in any State and so that Aboriginals are to be counted in reckoning the Population?" The vote was 90% saying yes. This gave the Aboriginal people proper -
9/11 Attacks
Al-Qaeda lead by Osama Bin Ladin performed a series of terrorist attacks on the USA. The most famous where the planes that crashed into the twin towers at the World Trade Centre. This is a significant event for the world because it introduced modern warfare that continues today and how nations protect themselves from acts of terror. -
The Tampa Crisis
MV Tampa was a large ship that rescued 438 asylum seekers near Christmas Island. The Howard Government disallowed the vessel into Australia. This crisis made the government to be brought in to allow Australia to remove any boast from Australian Waters. This is significant because of the Australian Government disallowing the refugees into Australia starting a fight between two nations
