    Early trains were poorly constructed and Railroads caused fires to nearby homes due to embers. Despite the troubles in the beginning, Railroads were to become a largely imporant system of transportation everywhere.

    15 September. The Choctaws sign a treaty exchanging 8 million acres of land east of the Mississippi for land in Oklahoma.
