AP Calculus Timeline

  • Integration

    Integration
Good old Reimann sums - need to remember left endpoints and inscribed areas are not always the same. My big problem is remembering to use the width of the rectangle in the formula, and not just 1/2 for everything (like I did on the AP).
The hardest part is dividing the sum into equal areas - so I am practicing that on my own. I also forget the "special" trig integrals sometimes, so I am reviewing those.
  • Differential Equations

    Differential Equations
I have to remember the two forms for logistic equations. At least we reviewed what they are, because (sadly) I had forgotten how to translate from the differential equation to a y = form without doing partial fractions and all that business. Though that is useful to know how to do, the process just takes too much time!
I also need to review slope fields with particular solutions, and how to deal with vertical and horizontal slopes.
  • Sequences and Series

    Sequences and Series
Wow I forgot a lot of this. I need to remember how to use the limit comparison and direct comparison tests. I also forgot that if the sequence converges to a value, the series also converges to that value.
The page of tests is incredibly useful. I'm still a bit shaky on creating series (initial values give me trouble), but the simple directions in class made it much easier to create sequences.
I did remember how to recursively define sequences, and how to use most of the basic series tests!
  • Taylor and Maclaurin Series

    Taylor and Maclaurin Series
Finally, the Langrange remainder makes sense! I was always confused on how to use it, but it just fell into place today. Finding z will still be an issue, so I will practice finding z for some common functions, like e^x on an interval.
I still have trouble finding the convergence and divergence of series, because I still have trouble with limits. But, with practice (especially these worksheets) I know I will be able to get this down.
  • Power Series

    Power Series
I like these! I actually understand how to make these, what they mean, how to find things (IOC, Radius of Convergence) associated with them, and I can complete the AP Practice problems about them! I feel good about this section of both the review and the test.
  • Advanced Integration

    Advanced Integration
Partial fractions and parts have always made sense, but I'm still unsure of the integrals to infinity. I guess it's because I don't understand how to use infinity, so I have a hard time integrating it. The indeterminate forms of functions make sense for the first time, because I can see the contradictions behind them and the problems that an indeterminate form would cause. I feel good about this section.
  • Area and Volume

    Area and Volume
My favorite unit hands down. Nothing is new, nothing is a surprise. I feel solid on these and I hope that all the questions on the AP are area and volume problem.s
  • Polar Review

    Polar Review
After going over the equations in class, I feel great about tomorrow's game. Even though I almost forgot the arclength formula, I figured it out in the end. All in all, the later sections are the ones I feel most comfortable with for the AP and tests in general. Probably, the area where I need the most work are series, limits, and sequences.
  • Polar Test

    Polar Test
Some parts of this test (areas between two curves) were more difficult than others. But I feel good about the test, especially the non-calculator based portion. I understand the topic and I feel good about this test.
  • Pre-Game

    Pre-Game
I feel great about our review sessions before hand, and I'm prepared to take the test!
  • Pre-AP

  • Biggest Game of All

    Biggest Game of All
The Calc AP! I feel great about this test, except a few of the later free response questions.
  • Post-AP
