    Intro to Diminishing Progress
It is 1621, and Anthony Johnson has just washed up in Colonial Virginia. Little did he know, as a lowly slave then, he would make great progress for Africans. BUT, disaster will strike and tear it down! Anthony was bounced around as a slave until he reached the Bennett plantation. During his early years with the Bennett's plantation, he had to endure a massacre. After 20 years he got his freedom, this is his story and how his progress got torn down.

Anthony Wins a Courtcase Against an Englishman
It is amazing that Anthony won agaist an Englishman. Even when the judge was white, he won! He won his slave back from Mr.Parker. Even though the odds were not in his favor he won against an Englishman. That is great progress for Africans because who would imagine an ex-slave winning a courtcase against an Englishman! That must have made A.J. very happy. It maybe even made Africans respected.
  • Anthony Owns a Slave

    Anthony Owns a Slave
I got my bonus fact from here, I give full credit to them. Anthony Johnson had owned a slave before this date but he had just won back his slave today. Now, the funny thing here is that Anthony was a slave before. This is great progress for Africans. After all, who could imagine an ex- slave owning a slave. Bonus fact: Did you know that Anthony's slave, John Casor, was the first person legally declared as a slave by Virginia. It says it all in the link.

Baptism of a Slave Does Not Get You Out of Slavery
This is indeed an act showing diminishing progress. It shows, the act, that the Englishmen want to keep the slaves for life, like property. This is indeed a desperate measure and an . But, some slaves could be using baptism just to get out of slavery. So, they could have taken away that "baptism rule" because they weren't really converting. What do you think?

Progress Down the Drain, Casual Killings of Slaves
This is one of the first major law. It says that you will not get punished for killing a slave while punishing it. This is the first time a slave is reconized as a property. The hidding meaning is: Why would you want to kill your own property? That is why they don't get punished. Can you see how much they depend on slaves?

Aficans, Mulatto, and Indian Slaves to be Real Estate
This is the point when we learn about slaves in history class. This law OFFICIALY states that slaves are real estate. All the laws before had a secret meaning that slaves were property. But know it is OFFICIALY reconized by the law of Virginia. This law is the worst of the worst laws. All of the slaves must have gave up all hope. The slave masters probably punished them more now. If that isn't diminishing progress, I don't know what is.

    That's all Folks
All throughout this timeline you can see Anthony's progress go down the drain. Although slaves could not prevent this, the damage was already caused. I ask you, why didn't they rebell? Did they change the laws little by little and the slaves grew custom to these laws? Look at us now, free of slavery. We need to keep it this way. So make good decisions. If not, don't fret, for the worst is yet to come.......
