Germany decides to attack Russia, Mutual Assistance agreement is signed by British and Russia. Anne and Margot cannot go to non-Jewish schools. It was mandatory for Jews 6 years and older to wear a bright yellow star of David.

On her 13th birthday, she receives a diary for her present. Her family go into hiding with her, along with the Van Pels, and Fritz Pfferer into the secret annex.
