May 10th, 1940, the German army invaded the Netherlands. After just a few days of fighting, the Dutch surrendered on May 15th, 1940. That day was marked as the beginning of the Netherlands Invasion.

On Anne's 13th birthday her parents gave her a red diary. The first thing she wrote was to her imaginary friend named, Kitty. It said "I hope I will be able to confide in everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of confort and support."

July 5th, 1942, Margot had recieved an official summons for her to report to a Nazi work camp in Germany. The day after that their family went into hiding in the back of Otto's company building located at Prinsengracht 263 in Amsterdam.

Just about a week after the Franks had gone into hiding, they were joined by Otto's business associate Hermann van Pels along with his son, Peter, and wife, Auguste.

After hiding in the annex for 2 years, on August 4th, 1944, a German police officer along with 4 Dutch Nazis found everyone hiding in the annex, and arrested them. They were betrayed by someone who still remains unknown today.

The ones living in the annex were then transported to Camp Westerbork, which is a concentration camp in the northeastern Netherlands. They made it there on August 8th, 1944.

The Frank's were transported to Auschwitz death camp in the middle of the night. When they arrived the women and men were seperated, that was the last time Otto got to see his wife and daughters.

After working for months, Anne & Margot were transported to the Bergen Belsen Concentration Camp in the winter. They were low on food, and the disease there was terrible. Both Anne and her sister came down with Typhus, and died within days of each other. Anne was 15 years old when she died.
