    On this day Annelies Marie Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany. Her mother was Edith Frank, and her father, Otto Frank, was a lieutenant in the German Army during World War I.
  • Movement to Amsterdam

    Movement to Amsterdam
    In the Fall of 1933 the Frank family moved to Amsterdam to escape the nazi powers overtaking their previous home. Anne describes the move as "Because we're Jewish, my father immigrated to Holland in 1933, where he became the managing director of the Dutch Opekta Company, which manufactures products used in making jam."

  • The Start of a Diary

    For Anne's 13th birthday, she received a red-and-white-checkered diary. Until she went into hiding, Anne wrote in her diary about everyday life such as her friends, grades she received at school, even about playing ping pong.

    In July 1942, German authorities began to concentrate Jews throughout the Netherlands at Westerbork, a transit camp near the Dutch town of Assen.

    The first half of July had the Frank family hiding in an apartment at 263 Prinsengracht Street with four outher Dutch Jews. Anne often referred to this place as the "Secret Annex". In her diary she wrote about how she felt misunderstood by those around her and was constantly trying to better herself.

    On this day, after two years of hiding, the Frank family was discovered by the Gestapo because of a Dutch Anonymous caller.

    In Late September, the Frank family was sent to Auschwitz. While there, because of their youth, Anne and her sister were sent to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp near Celle, in northern Germany in late October 1944.
  • Death

    Anne and her sister both died of typhus in March 1945, just a few weeks before British troops liberated Bergen-Belsen on April 15, 1945
