    These two woman attened the convention to show support for the anti-slavery movement. When they arrived they were horrified to discover they were not allowed to speak at the convention and they must sit in the balcony behind a curtain.     Frederick Douglas (an escaped slave) spoke at a meeting of abolitionists. He explained what it was like to have been a slave. He talked about the cruel treatments of all ages including children. His speach moved people and caused great emotions. After this meeting he moved on to become an abolitionist leader.     Women were outraged by the unequal treatment of woman and men. Many rights were given to men but not woman. A group of mainly woman gathered to write the Declaration of Sentiments to show how both men and woman are to be treated equally.     After working most of her life to improve conditions for prisoners, she finally succeeded. By the time she died, conditions and treatments had changed. Cruel punishment had been outlawed in many places, more institutions were built, and people who commit simple "crimes" were no longer placed in prison.
