    Amos got captured the night of them having an outdoor party. A group of white men had come to take Amos and kill everyone else. These men had guns and knew they would need to use them. Amos at the time was dancing with his sister. She had a lame leg. Her name was athmun.

    The captives the white men had taken took them to a boat. This was a large boat yet none of the soon to be slaves had gotten very much time to be on the top of the boat. Most of the time the slaves had to be in the bottom of the boat except for the hour the white men had to inspect the cabins in which the men were sleeping in.

    When Mr. Copeland passed, Mrs. Copeland new she would have to sell him. Which she did. Amos was to be auctioned at a Public Vendue on Tuesday, 22nd April 1740, at 2 o'clock. Near the end of the auction Amos ended up going for 62 pounds to Ichabod Richardson.

Although Lydia was a good slave, Amos new she wouldn't be alive much longer due to a lame body. But Amos wanted her to die free. As Amos had expected, Lydia died not longer after Amos freed her.

    Amos, Celyndia, and Violet arrived at Jaffrey, where they plan to start a life. Amos talked to the man who had greeted him to make sure he was a free man. The man warned him that Jaffrey doesn't need another family of blacks. This man was white of course. Amos told the man he was a tanner. The man responded with thanking him for coming because they need a tanner in the city of Jaffrey.

    Amos heard that the city of Jaffrey was no longer supporting the Burdoo family. And that the 2 oldest children of the family had to got up for auction. Amos had bought the girl. She didn't cost much but Amos bought her knowing that she would not be able to take the beatings she would have gotten. The girls name was Polly. She had often spent time starring into space and not completing the tasks she had been given.

    Amos had a busy first year in Jaffrey. Celyndia grew to like her friends in the city. But one day came around when Amos felt like getting another piece of land. Violet agreed, but the next day they didn't. Amos wanted to get clothes for Burdoo family. The Burdoo family was a poor family in the city with only a mom to look after them. Violet was mad that Amos had wanted to help them so she hid the money. Amos was mad about this. But he talked to God and he told Amos to spend the money on himself.
